FIFTH COP CHAIRMAN ASSUMES
OFFICE
|
|
|
postle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, 54,
has been inducted into office as the fifth Chairman of The Church of Pentecost
(COP).
He succeeds Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy whose two five-year terms
of office ended in August this year. Until his election in April 2008, Apostle
Dr. Onyinah was the Rector of the Pentecost University College.
Pastor James McKeown, an
Irish clergyman, who founded the Church in 1937 was the first Chairman; he was
succeeded by Apostle F. S. Safo, the first Ghanaian Chairman, to be followed by
Prophet M. K. Yeboah.
The Church
now has branches
in 70 countries on all the
continents.
Speaking at
the induction service held at the Pentecost Worship Center, Burma Camp, Accra,
on Sunday, August 31, 2008, on the topic, ‘If the Holy Spirit is in you, you are
able,’ based on Daniel 4: 18 and 2 Corinthians 3: 5- 6, Apostle (retd) S. K.
Ansong said because the Church of God was founded through the instrumentality of
the Holy Spirit, anyone who wanted to head it could only succeed through the
power of the Spirit of God. |

|
Apostle (retd) Ansong attributed the remarkable strides
made by the Church, despite the terrible crises it had
faced, to its dependence on the Holy Spirit adding that
“if the fifth generation of the Church would learn to
draw inspiration from the Holy Spirit, the Church’s next
glory would be greater.”
Apostle (retd) Ansong noted that more than anything
else, Daniel succeeded as an administrator because of
the Spirit of God in him.
He, therefore, urged the
Chairman to consider the fact that his ability to
deliver would not depend on his academic achievements
but on the Holy Spirit.
Having
asked the new Chairman to discharge his duties “in faith, hope and love”
in the induction charge, Apostle Dr. Ntumy, the outgoing Chairman,
introduced him to the congregation and ushered him to his seat to take
charge of the rest of the proceedings in accordance with the
constitution of the Church.
