The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost (COP), Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, has stated that God is the Supreme Being because all things are under His control and rule, and therefore nothing happens without His direction and permission.
“All powers are under His authority. He has authority over creation without being accountable to mankind for His actions,” he stressed.
The General Secretary was speaking at the 2016 Apostolisation organised by the COP-Canada which took place in Toronto, from July 22-28 on the theme, “Hearing and Obeying the Lord’s Voice in My Generation” (1 Samuel 3: 9-10). The bi-annual event was a time of teachings, prayer, impartation and fellowship for leaders of the churches across North America.
Giving the keynote address on the topic, “Hearing and Obeying The Lord’s Voice in Times of Trouble,” Apostle Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi entreated believers not to attribute almost all issues of suffering in life to Satan, because once they do that they unconsciously make Satan all powerful.
“Sometimes Christians act as if the devil has the final say. But the Bible states clearly in Deuteronomy 6:4; 33:2-3, and Ephesians 4:4-6 that the Lord is the one true God who has overall supremacy over all spiritual powers,” he said.
Giving examples from his own life experiences, Apostle Kumi-Larbi explained that suffering in this world and nature is as a result of the fall of man (Genesis 3:14-19; Romans 8:18-25; 1 Corinthians 15:53). He further explained that suffering can occur as a result of the laws being violated, and also through the works of Satan, citing Job in Job 1, 2 & 14 and Paul's torn in the flesh in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10.
“One thing believers should know is that, in the case of the believer, Satan cannot touch him except with God’s permission. In cases where Satan is granted permission, God further places limits on him- Job 1:12; 2:4-6. As promised in 1 Corinthians 10:13, God will not tempt us beyond our ability,” he assured.
The General Secretary revealed that Satan's objective for inflicting suffering is not for believers to die but for them to curse God and deny Him since Satan’s loudest voice is heard during the vulnerability of Christians, including times of suffering. During those periods, he said, Satan throws a lot of doubts into the hearts of believers – asking questions like,“Why did God create man if He knew he would suffer?” – “Why does God bring evil if He is a good God?and “If He cares, why doesn’t He do something about our situation?”
Other keynote speakers at the event were: Apostle Emmanuel Gyesi Addo (International Missions Director), Apostle Dr. Emmanuel Anthony Owusu (Executive Council Member and Regional Coordinating Committee Chair for North America), Apostle Sampson Ofori Yiadom (National Head, Canada), Apostle James Smith Gyimah (retired), Apostle George Korankye (UK), Apostle Agyemang-Amoako (Washington Region), and Apostle Augustus Asemnor (Area Head, Western Region, USA).
