Chairman Lays Foundation Stone For Biggest COP Auditorium

Date: August 11, 2017

Works on the 7000-seater auditorium of the South McCarthy Assembly church building in the Odorkor Area of The Church of Pentecost is progressing steadily after the Chairman of the Church, Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, laid the foundation stone for the building project on Thursday, August 10, 2017, in Accra.

The building, which is popularly known as the Pentecost Prayer Centre (Salvation), would become the biggest church auditorium in Ghana when completed. It has now been renamed in honour of Pastor Sampson Okyere of blessed memory.

Speaking on the topic “Christ in You the Hope of Glory” with Colossians 1:27 as scripture reference, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah explained that God has always desired to have a relationship with mankind, He, therefore, created us in His image and likeness so as to be able to relate with mankind.

However, the relationship between mankind and God broke down after the devil entered the scene. He explained that the devil in just one attempt convinced the first couple, Adam and Eve, to sin against God and this separated them from Him.

The Chairman further explained that, even though the human race had fallen, God still desires to have a relationship with man. According to him, the close relationship that God had with Abraham was a clear indication of how intimate God wanted His relationship with mankind to be.

“Abraham was a friend of God, and their relationship was so close that God could share His thoughts with him. This was why He revealed to Abraham His plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah,” he explained.

He noted that it was because of God’s desire to have an intimate relationship with mankind that caused Him to come down to earth to die for our sins.

He, therefore, advised Christians to purify their hearts which is the abode of the indwelling Spirit of God, adding that, sin is the only thing that can force the Spirit of God out of them.

The building project officially began on April 19, 2009, after Prophet James Osei Amaniampong, then the Odorkor Area Head, cut the sod for the construction of the project. He was assisted by the then District Minister, Pastor Osei Wusu Brempong (now Apostle).

The current Odorkor Area Head, Apostle Johnson Agyemang Baduh, and the current District Minister, Pastor Evans Nketsiah Egyir also saw to the continuation of the project to its current state.

Also present at the ceremony were: Apostle A.E.K Ekuban (Anyaa-Ablekuma Area Head), Apostle Onyinah Gyamfi (Dansoman Area Head), Apostle S. K. Ansong (Retd.) as well as the children of late Pastor Sampson Okyere, namely; Pastor John Okyere, Pastor Omono Asamoah, Rt Rev. Felix Korankye, Elder Edward Yaw Okyere and Elder Stephen Sarpong Okyere (Leader of Pentecost Prayer Centre - Salvation)
