The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, has stated that the best way a Christian can present Christ to others is to become an of example Christ.
Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah made this assertion when he delivered his keynote message at the Global Ministers and Wives’ Conference 2017 (GMWC’17) which is ongoing at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Gomoa-Fetteh, near Kasoa in Ghana.
Speaking on the topic, “I am an example of Christ in my Generation” which is also the 2017 theme for The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Professor Onyinah said that it is incumbent on Christians whose lifestyles depict Christ to preach vehemently about Him and make Him known to a wider population.
The Chairman of the church emphasised that the godly character produced as a result of imitating Christ is what is often referred to in Scripture as the “image of God” or “the likeness of Christ.”
“It is this likeness or image of Christ we seek to possess and exhibit that makes us examples of Him in our generation and on earth,” he avowed.
Citing Paul as a case study, he said Paul was one of the apostles who clearly exhibited the image of Christ in the Bible and subsequently had the authority of tasking his converts to imitate him as he had imitated Christ.
He added that for Paul to confer on himself the title ‘I am an imitator of Christ’ and tell his converts to imitate him as he imitates Christ, means that he did not only talk about imitating Christ, he actually put his words into practice.
The Chairman further stated that once a Christian follows in the steps of Paul, he is definitely imitating Christ, because Paul committed himself to following Christ faithfully.
Apostle Prof Opoku Onyinah challenged ministers and their wives to make Christ the centre of their lives and also imitate Him in such a way that they will become examples of Christ for others to imitate them.
“Paul’s aim in life was to live for Christ by following, preaching and glorifying Him with his life and ministry, hence Christians following after him must do same without hesitation,” he stressed.
He challenged participants to have no value in their former way of life, saying, “Your former way of life should cause you to have a completely new attitude towards God and live by counting the former things as garbage.”
Apostle Prof Opoku Onyinah explained that Paul’s statement, “that I may know the power of his resurrection,” implies that he might experience the impact that the resurrection would have on his life as a Christian since “the resurrection also makes it certain that indeed there is life after death; heaven is real.”
The Chairman admonished Christians to still desire to know Christ, to be fully associated with His person, His character, and the salvation they have obtained and to be the best examples of Him to impact others in their generation.
