MEMORY VERSE: “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him”. Proverbs 13:24(NIV)
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful; says the Word of God. But have you considered the purpose of discipline? Let us look at a few of the purposes:
i. That wayward believers might still share in the holiness of God;
ii. That righteous or godly living would be the hall mark of the Church;
iii. That a believer will not lose his/her salvation.
Friend, if you live a self-examined Christian life, you may not fall into church discipline. If the Church is not pleased with you for any reason and you are disciplined to ensure your salvation, I encourage you to accept it in good faith and observe it. No matter how painful it is, it is for your ultimate good.
As you discipline your own children or when disciplined by your father, what comes to your mind?
As you suffer discipline from God or the Church, what comes to your mind?
O Lord, thank you that for your love for me, you are careful to discipline me when I go wrong. Please give me the grace to live a disciplined life.
Without self discipline, we allow others to discipline us.
