WHEN THE CHURCH PRAYS!!
CARMEN JONES
Hello, dear reader, do you know what happens when holy men and women lift up holy hands in prayer to God? Let me take you through a typical incident in the Bible as recorded in The Acts of the Apostles.
The Lord Jesus had risen from the dead and, after some days with the disciples in which He gave them final instructions concerning what to do after His period with them on earth, had been taken to heaven. Soon after His ascension to the Father, the Holy Spirit fell and anointed the new apostles for ministry.
Not long after this remarkable experience, Peter, James and John healed a born cripple who requested money from them. This miracle sent shock waves of consternation among the Sadducees, the priests and captain of the temple. They promptly laid hands on the trio and, after quizzing and threatening them not to preach again in the name of Christ, released them.
Fact is, they could not resist the boldness with which these “unlearned and ignorant men” (Acts 4: 13) had defended their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. They also wanted to avoid a situation in which the public proclamation of the saving and healing power in the name of Jesus Christ would make many more Christian converts.
Turn now to verse 23 of the same chapter: “And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.”
Verse 24: “And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is…”
Verse 31: “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together….”
Dear reader, things are shaken in the spiritual realm when believers pray. When the apostles felt their ministry of winning souls for Christ was under threat, they prayed for divine intervention. And God answered.
The Church of Pentecost needs divine intervention in electing a new Chairman to lead it in God’s divine path. Unless you and I start praying today for a David, a man after God’s own heart, we may end up with a Saul in God’s anger who He may then take away in His wrath.
The most qualified person, from all human considerations, may not necessarily be the best qualified, spiritually, to lead this great church. Let the Church pray for a new Chairman and all other decisions to be taken at the coming General Council Meetings to be held from April 24 – 27, 2008. |
