HOLE IN HEART BOY UNDERGOES SUCCESSFUL SURGERY

Daniel Agyeman, 11, a pupil of the Ebenezer A.M.E Zion Primary School at Dansoman, was diagnosed at age three as having a hole in his heart.

Little Daniel, looking hearty and strong

Initially, Daniel’s parents, Mr and Mrs Kwabena Agyeman, both cloth dealers, thought little Daniel was having bouts of asthmatic attack, but the doctors at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital said Daniel’s difficulty with breathing and tiredness after a little effort were early signs of a serious heart condition.

Due to the deterioration of Daniel’s health, the doctors advised that he underwent a surgery which would cost 8.000 Euros, failure of which would cause his death.

At the 2007 Laterbiokoshie District Christmas Convention held at Laterbiokoshie in the Dansoman Area, the District Pastor, S. Sintim-Koree, appealed to the members of the Church to donate towards the cost of Daniel’s medication.

This appeal elicited positive response from Apostle Dr. Stephen Kwesi Baidoo, International Missions Director (IMD), Elder Clemens Wilkinson and other brethren present at the convention, but the target could not be realised.

The IMD continued to look for funds for Daniel’s cause at a meeting with Heads of Missions in Brussels, capital of Belgium. Through the kind donation of the brethren abroad, the target was realised for the operation which was done in 2008 at the Cardio Thoracic Centre at Korle –Bu, Accra.

Today, Daniel is strong and kicking and has started his schooling which was temporarily stopped because of his poor health.

Daniel’s parents, the Laterbiokorshie District Executive Committee and the entire membership of the District have expressed gratitude to the IMD, individuals and heads of missions for their philanthropic gesture.
